Setting Intentional New Year’s Resolutions…

Hello you lovely lot! My first blog post! I am new to all this so please bear with me (!) and send me an email or dm me on Instagram to let me know what you’d like to read about on here!

With the run up to Christmas and New Yeas well under way I thought it was appropriate to begin by talking about New Year’s Resolutions. There’s always so much pressure surrounding this subject and I find it sad that they are often created from feelings of guilt over the Christmas period. We should try not to be so hard on ourselves and instead be more intentional and kind. Christmas is the time to enjoy being in the moment with friends and family, relaxing and enjoy eating delicious food. Let’s try not to stop ourselves from being in the moment, thinking ahead to changes we want to make in the New Year and instead take a step back and just enjoy this time, guilt free.

It could be that you don’t have any New Year’s Resolutions, they are not for everyone and that is ok. However, often people’s new year’s resolutions can be things that are too ambitious or unrealistic and it leaves you feeling deflated when you haven’t been able to achieve them. They could be going on a new diet, taking off the ‘Christmas Weight’, getting in shape, starting to meditate, going to the gym every day or cooking more often. All these are hard to stick to and are too broad… so my question for you though is whether your new year’s resolutions are things you really want to achieve or whether it’s because you feel like should?

Intentions or goals are good to have in place for the year ahead and can bring a sense of motivation into the start of the year. However, making them more specific, not too optimistic and relating to things that will bring more happiness and positivity into your life is the key to achieving them. They can be really small and simple habits you want to bring into your daily lives or goals you want to put in place for the short or long term. Some examples being; trying an exercise class such as yoga or Pilates once or twice a week, perhaps you’d prefer to try a new recipe every week or spend more time giving back to your community. Maybe you just have a few things you’d like to achieve by the end of the year instead; somewhere you’d like to visit, a place you’d like to be in personally or at work, or a new hobby you would like to try out and become really good at. Finding something you enjoy will make it easier to continue on with it!

Thinking about you and what works for you best, not worrying about anyone else. It’s a time for you to reflect on the previous year and think about things you’d maybe like to change or improve on but also making sure they will bring happiness into your new year ahead.

Happy Christmas and see you in 2024!
